Week 7: Light and Scale

At Home Studio Activities:

1: Iterative Model with an additional source of natural light at a new scale

Model 1: Existing model from week 6

Applying the human figure in the room:

I applied this human figure into the room room and took photos of it in different areas of the model to show the scale of the room. I used a bright coloured cardboard material to add colour into the space as well as make the figure stand out to emphasise the scale of the room. I took pictures of the figure in many different angles and from different positions to compare the size of the figure to the size of the model and the furniture within it.

Applying light the model:

I took photos using different lights to show many different aspects of my room.

Firstly I put the light source within the room to show what the model looks light at night with lights within the model.

Next I placed the model outside the different windows to show how the light affects the space. I noticed that it made different shapes on the ground and when the light was only placed on one side of the wall it made the other space darker.

Model 2: New model at 1:30

I decided to make my new model quite differently through using a different material, adding levels and using a scale of 1:30. I decided to change my material to cardboard as I found it much easier to use, allowing for a greater support during the creation of my model. I also added levels to my model in order to further create an ideal room, where these levels are connected by 'floating stairs'. I decided to use multiple windows and made them bigger to allow natural light in and make the space look bigger. Lastly, I added a garden at the bottom of my model to connect my model with the environment and increase the aesthetics of it.

Including the human figure:

I took many photos of my model with the human figure in different places as well as taking it at different angles.

This long shot compares the size of the human figure to the space around it, showing the scale that I am working at.

The shot is taken from the entrance of the room at the stairs, showing the figure standing at the desk to show the scale of the bedroom alone in comparison to the figure as well as the different activities that can me undertaken in the threshold.

This shot is taken on the second level of the model, showing the figure standing in the available space. This shot shows scale.

Photos using different lights:

I took photos using different lights to show many different aspects of my room.

Firstly I put the light source within the room to show what the model looks light at night with lights within each threshold.

I also took pictures coming from particular windows in each threshold to show how the light placed in one room affect the other levels. I also applied the light source at different angles to show how the placement of the sun effects the rooms in different times of day.
